No Way Rose' (Just kidding) I love Rose Wine!

Welcome to an enchanting journey in the world of Rose Wine. I feel like Rose' wine is like the old, new thing. I remember tasting White Zinfandel years ago and thought why would anyone drink this?? But, there was and still is quite a following. So let's dive in and learn the origin, how it's produced, styles and best food pairings.

Rose'?

  • Never tried

Where does Rose Wine come from you ask?

Rose wine has a rich history dating back for centuries! It is traced back to ancient winemaking regions such as Provence in France and the Mediterranean. The ancient Greeks and Romans were known to produce rose' wine by allowing the juice to ferment with the grape skins for a short period. Over time, different winemaking techniques and grape varieties have contributed to the diverse range of rose wines we love today.

How it's made...

The red grapes are crushed, then yeast is added to the juice and skins (fermentation). Color and tannins are extracted from the skins by mixing thoroughly. A few hours later (give or take) the juice is drained from the skins. At this point it is pink in color. The wine then finishes the fermentation process. During the last step, maturation, they wine is stored in steel tanks or barrels, although rose is not often stored in barrels. The color spectrum and flavors is one of the captivating aspects of rose wine. From pale salmon to vibrant pink depending on the grape varietal used. The rose wine flavors are crisp and light bodied to fuller bodied and fruit forward. Commonly used in tasting notes you'll see descriptions of red berries, citrus fruits, melon and floral undertones making rose wine ideal for summer sipping.

Of course you need to know how Rose Wine pairs with food!

One of the charms of rose wine is it is a delightful companion for various dishes. It's refreshing acidity and fruity profile pair exceptionally well with light dishes like salad, seafood, grilled veggies and charcuterie. Rose wine also stands up well to spicier foods, making it an excellent match to Asian and Mediterranean food. I personally love rose' anytime I am outside relaxing, inside cooking, watching t.v., or hanging out with friends snacking. In Germany, we see a lot of rose wine at wine fests and folks enjoying the nice summer weather.

So say Yay to Rose'...

I believe these wines are perfect for new and old wine drinkers! (I do not mean your age) Rose' wine has come a long way in the past years. You see it everywhere and if you have not given it a try since a bad white zinfandel experience, try it again, I promise you won't be disappointed! One last thing I cannot leave without saying is a MUST TRY: Rose' Sparking Wine, or Sekt where I am now, OMG, mind blowing! ! Cheers!
