Why Dry January is bad for you...

The month of purity...and water

Dry January has been around a while now.

Well, since 2008. My research shows it started in New York, crossed the pond to the UK in 2012 and really got it's momentum in 2013. I say momentum and really as this point in 2024, I would call it more of a movement as we see a shift in the way the different ages are looking at alcohol.

How do you "dry January"?

I did a YouTube video on it actually when I thought I could excel in YouTube...

That being said... if you'd like to get the two minute version of this blog and maybe giggle a bit yourself, go to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dkM_84Tne_w&t=6s

I am reading these days that the younger crowd is leaning towards liquor or ready to drink type options. I also read that they are concerned with spending money (last I checked, liquor is not cheap) and having a non alcohol version of it all. All these different studies kind of contradict themselves and I would like to hear from the different groups what they think (or feel). In another article it states that we don't drink maturely until around twenty-nine! I have many thoughts on that being true or not. The how part... well, it is pretty easy depending on what crowd you are personally in right now. Just commit, by a group of friends, online there are groups or just on your own accountability. January 1, no alcohol. The first day may be the easiest after a festive December 31!!

Why do you "dry January"?

So now, you know when it started, how to do it...Why? I started the dry January journey in 2023. I honestly had never heard of it before then. It was kind of a refreshing journey I must say. I felt good by the end of the month, clear and a little lighter on the scale. I believe that this is a resolution of sorts that is very doable as it is not that long and does boost the confidence that you can stick to a new year goal!! You can also save some money!

Closing arguments on why dry January is bad for you?

It's halfway thru January 2024 now. Year two for me. I once again feel amazing, am more laser focused on my goals for the year and for sure glad for the break from the end of the year stress that they holidays can cause. In a nutshell, why is dry January bad, it's not. If you didn't start on the 1st, try it from now til the 31st. There is no wrong way to take this break. I wish you all a very happy and prosperous new year. Always remember to enjoy your beverage of choice responsibly no matter what time of year it is. And if you need help, it's out there and I would encourage anyone to take any necessary steps.

Here is to you and 2024! Cheers, Prost, Salud, Sant'e !!!
